How to Deep Clean Your Home on a Schedule – Incorporating Rotating Tasks
October 5, 2023
Have you ever found yourself overwhelmed by the extensive list of cleaning tasks around your home? Or maybe you know you should be doing some deep cleaning but are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of tasks and lack of time or energy to complete them. The Rotating Tasks are part of the Clean Mama Routine, they rotate through the year and are completed monthly with only 7 or 8 to complete each month. This approach is designed to help you maintain a clean and organized space without feeling the pressure to tackle everything at once.
There are 4 parts to the Clean Mama Routine – I always recommend that you start with the DAILY TASKS and work your way to the MONTHLY FOCUS.
What’s the secret to the routine? CONSISTENCY – doing a little bit every day is what will help you take your home to the next level of clean. The Clean Mama Routine is intended to be done in the little moments that you have during the day or in the morning or evening – you know what to do because it’s on a schedule – it takes the guesswork out of trying to figure out what to clean and when to clean it.
Once the Daily Tasks and Weekly Tasks are working for you and they’re integrated into your home, then it’s time to add the Rotating Tasks.
Here are posts that detail each part of the Clean Mama Routine:
What are Rotating Tasks?
Rotating Cleaning Tasks are chores that don’t need to be done daily or even weekly but should be addressed periodically to ensure your home stays clean. These are tasks like washing baseboards, deep-cleaning carpets, or cleaning behind large furniture pieces. Since these aren’t part of our regular cleaning routine, it’s easy to forget or procrastinate on them.
When to Tackle Rotating Cleaning Tasks?
Personally, I slot in these tasks primarily on Fridays, as part of “Catch-All Day.” This is the day I set aside to address any tasks that I might have missed throughout the week. The beauty of this system is its flexibility. If, for example, “Washing Baseboards” is a task for the month, it can conveniently be paired with my Thursday Floor Washing Day. The key is to integrate these chores organically into your week without overthinking it.
Remember: It’s Your Guide, Not a Rulebook!
I don’t always check off every task on the list. And that’s okay! This system is meant to be a guide, not a strict rulebook. There will be days or even weeks when life gets busy, and cleaning takes a backseat. And that’s entirely okay.
The goal is to use the Rotating Tasks as a guideline. Some weeks you might tackle a handful of tasks, while others you might only get to one or two. The important thing is to give yourself grace. Don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself. Remember, at the end of the day, it’s just dirt. It’ll wait for you until you’re ready.
Seize the Moments
Another trick I swear by is making the most of unexpected pockets of free time. Maybe you find yourself with a spare 15 minutes before the kids come back from school. See if you can check off one of the Rotating Tasks. It’s incredible how much you can accomplish in a short burst of focused effort!
The Rotating Tasks is all about balance. It’s about ensuring your home remains a sanctuary without allowing the cleaning to become a stressful obligation. By incorporating these tasks when it makes sense for you, you’ll find your home consistently feels fresh and clean. Remember, it doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing approach. Do what you can, when you can, and take a moment to appreciate the clean and organized space you’ve created.
Following the Clean Mama Routine breaks down what can seem like overwhelming tasks into manageable chunks. Over time, these Weekly Tasks will become second nature, ensuring your home is consistently clean, organized, and a joy to live in. Remember, it’s not about perfection, but progression. Each task you complete is a step towards a cleaner, more organized home.
